The synthetic jewel the scientist
Dr. Satoyasu Iimori(Iimori of Imori stone)created after the war. During World War II, Iimori was formerly in charge of
uranium condensation in the ‘Ni (as in Nishina) research’ team
led by Yoshio Nishina for developing the atomic bomb in Japan. Riken Rare Element Industry Co., Ltd. relocated to Ishikawa-machi, Fukushima prefecture where uranium containing ore was produced, from Tokyo, after the city was burnt down from the 1945 air raid. Iimori continued his research there as well.
Although Iimori’ s synthetic jewels had been produced since 1962, importance was put on it being natural instead of how it looked,
so its production was suspended after the early 1990s.

小林エリカによる短編小説集「彼女は鏡の中を覗きこむShe Looks into the Mirror」（集英社）の刊行にあわせた個展。
作品にも登場する「庭」をモチーフにした小林の新作。
パリ、マリ・キュリーの旧「ラジウム研究所」の庭に咲くバラ。
ピエール・キュリーの家の庭に茂る蔦。
和泉式部の伝説と日本の原爆開発「ニ号研究」にまつわる庭にむす苔。
目に見えない”光"を描こうとするシリーズのインスタレーションです。
Marking the publication of Erika Kobayashi’s new short story collection, She Looks into the Mirror (Shūeisha), Gallery 360° will be hosting a new solo exhibition of her work – her fourth.
The motif, which also appears in her written work, is “The Garden”:
—The roses blooming in the small garden at Marie Curie’s “Institut du Radium” in Paris.
—The luxuriant ivy growing in the garden at Pierre Curie’s house.
—The moss, legendarily commemorated by the Heian poetess Izumi Shikibu, that grew in the garden surrounding Japan’s nuclear weapons development site, “Ni-gō Project.”
This is the latest installation in Kobayashi’s ongoing attempt to capture this “light” invisible to the eye.

謎のXを冠せられた「X線」を発見したヴィルヘルム・レントゲンの元研究室、ドイツ、ヴュルツブルク大学の庭のイチョウ。
X線の蛍光を研究している最中、たまたま机の引き出しの中に入れたウラン塩で写真乾板を感光させたことで「放射線」を発見したアンリ・ベクレルのパリ植物園内にある元研究所の庭のバラ。
「放射能」の名づけ親でもあるマリ・キュリーのパリにある旧ラジウム研究所（現在のキュリー研究所Institut Curie）の庭のバラ。
マリ・キュリーと共にラジウムを発見したピエール・キュリーがかつて暮らしたパリ郊外ソーにある家の庭にある鳥小屋。

日本では「ニ号研究」として原子爆弾開発計画がすすめられていた。投下目標地はサイパン。原子爆弾に必要とされるウラン235を10kg手に入れるため、科学者たちは奔走しました。
しかし、日本の原爆開発が成功するよりも先に、アメリカの「マンハッタン計画」により原子爆弾は開発され、世界で初めての原子爆弾実験、トリニティ実験に続き、広島に原子爆弾が投下されました。
自然に存在するウランのうちウラン235は0.72％（他は大方がウラン238）で、広島に落とされたウラン型原子爆弾リトルボーイには、83.5％濃縮のウラン235が65kｇ搭載されたと言われています。
またトリニティ実験ではその原子爆弾コアを包むのに極薄い金箔が使われました。

福島第一原子力発電所1~6号機の手前は、かつて「野鳥の森」と呼ばれる場所でした。事故の後、森は切り開かれ、巨大な汚染水のタンクの置き場になりました。それでもあたり一帯の放射線量は高かったため、さらに殆どの木々を伐採し、草花が生い茂る土の地面を銀色のモルタルで塗り固め、雨水が地底へ流れ込まないようにしました。そうすることで、放射線量は大幅に下がったそうです。かつては防護服や靴カバー、マスクが必要だったその場所も、現在では、使い捨ての手袋を装着するだけの格好でバスで見てまわることができます。窓の向こうは、見わたす限り銀色に光り輝いていました。
